Overview and Equipment:

The idea of the Liverpool Photowalk is to explore parts of the city of Liverpool and capture it on camera. These walks are for anyone who has an interest in city photography, whatever your camera experience.

Please note this is a walking tour. The route is mostly flat apart from steps up to various buildings. The tour is done at a leisurely pace, but please wear comfortable footwear as we will be on our feet for the entire walk

Steward your photography guide will take you to various parts of Liverpool which will include not only the iconic buildings and views, but also less known parts of the city, that are equally interesting.

During the walk Steward will be on hand to give advice on photographic composition and camera techniques. It does not matter what camera you have, whether you have a small digital compact or a digital SLR. You will be able with Stewards help to capture some great images of the city. Steward will give you ideas of how to look differently, at how you take photographs. He will also advise you on how to get the best out of your camera’s functions, including the best use of depth of field, shutter speeds.

To make your photo walk more enjoyable it would help if you could do the following before coming on the walk.

  1. Check you have enough batteries and memory cards / film for your camera.

  2. Have a working knowledge of how to find your camera’s functions ie shutter priority / aperture priority / timer / ISO setting. (Most cameras from small compacts to high end DSLR’s will have these settings). You do not need to know what these functions do, as Steward will help you, but knowing how to get to them on your camera will save time and make your day more enjoyable.

  3. If you wish to bring a tripod/monopod that is fine, however they are not required (on this tour) as using a camera handheld gives you more flexibility.

  4. Ensure you dressed for the day. Even in the summer the dock area of Liverpool can be cold / windy.

  5. Bring a bottle of water/drink as we do not have any set breaks, however we are never far from a toilet

Trainer: Steward Ellett

I have been a photographer for over 15 years. For the last few years I have been teaching photography on a practical level. This has included taking groups round Chester, Manchester and Liverpool. I have also taught individuals in the same manner. I have given numerous talks about photography and am used to managing groups of people.

I had my work published in numerous photography and wildlife publications. I have written several articles on 'how to' take photographs of various subjects. I have had several photos published in photographic books and have sold my work through different outlets. In the last three years I have been highly commended in the British Wildlife Photography Awards and have been published each year in their book.”
